Water Improvement Project

The City of Oelwein is planning a water improvement project. Three areas of the city have been experiencing water breaks, are in poor condition, and will beaddressed first. These three locations are identified as:

• 10th Street SE, (South Frederick Ave to 2nd Ave SE).
• 1st Ave SE (old railroad tracks to 3rd Street SE) and 3rd Street SE (1st Ave SE to 2nd Ave SE).
• 6th Street NE (2nd Ave NE to 4th Ave NE) and 3rd Street NE (6th St NE to 7th St NE).

The three proposed project areas will involve the installation of 8-inch diameter water mains, replacing the existing infrastructure that consists of aging 4-inch pipes that are in poor condition and prone to frequent breaks. This enhancement will not only reduce the likelihood of future pipeline failures but will also support better water pressure and flow, particularly during periods of high demand or emergencies.
